About Kenya

Working for Pike Township

Kenya Perkins has called Pike Township home for 22 years. A mother, longtime community advocate, and nonprofit volunteer, she has spent years working alongside residents and community organizations to address local needs and strengthen neighborhoods.

Professionally, Kenya brings more than 25 years of experience in Indianapolis’ utility sector. She spent 16 years with the Indianapolis Water Company, where she led the customer service operation serving more than 300,000 customers, and since 2011 has worked in IT compliance and cybersecurity, including service on a workgroup of the Governor’s Executive Cyber Security Council. She also owns Adorable Kreations, the Indianapolis event-planning business she founded in 2009.

Elected to the Pike Township Board in 2024, Kenya has represented District 5 since January 2025 and serves as the board’s secretary in 2026, with a focus on fiscal accountability, transparency, and responsible oversight of taxpayer dollars. A proud graduate of Indianapolis Public Schools, she holds an MBA, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, all from Indiana Tech.

Putting people over politics

Opening the Books

In September 2025, Kenya called for the township's full budget and financial records to be posted online, so residents can examine how their money is spent.

Careful Review Before Big Spending

Kenya has pushed for time to review major construction and vehicle purchases in the township's capital plan before committing taxpayer dollars, while protecting essential fire and EMS services.

Standing Up for Elected School Boards

In January 2025, Kenya joined fellow Pike Township officials in opposing a state proposal that would have dissolved certain school districts and replaced elected oversight.

In the Community

Serving her neighbors, hands-on

Pack the Pantry

Kenya organized Pack the Pantry, a food drive planned in less than 30 days. As the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center announced its closure, the drive collected more than 2,000 donated items for Eagle Creek Hunger Relief and Dayspring Center, and was featured on FOX59 Morning News.

Hands-On Service

From Community Clean Up initiatives to volunteer work with Changing Footprints, Second Helpings, Westminster Pantry, and Dress for Success, Kenya shows up where her neighbors need help.

Investing in Young People

Kenya developed the EDGE Mentoring Program to support students' academic achievement, leadership development, and career readiness, and has supported youth through 100 Black Men, Boys & Girls Club, and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

Kenya has served on the boards of Crooked Creek Northwest Community Development Corporation and Cardinal Ritter High School, on the advisory board of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, and as a youth program facilitator with the Center for Leadership Development. Her work also includes the Nspire 2 Dream/Fairy Glam Project and the Jim Irsay YMCA, and the Mid-States Minority Supplier Development Council honored her with its Camellia Buell Thomas Outstanding Volunteer Award.
